First Go:ttogether Drupal Meetup of 2012

Yesterday was the first Go:ttogether Drupal meetup for 2012 here in Gothenburg, this time hosted by NodeOne. Around 30 fun people turned up chatting away about everything Drupal, while enjoying snacks and beverages.

Mixed in, there where also three interesting presentations by NodeOne'rs:

  • Fabian Sörqvist gave us a status update on the NodeStream distribution. It's a distribution that takes a little different approach in the sense it is aiming for being a base to build your own distribution with. It is also heavily media oriented and based on Drupal 7. Fabian said that a stable release should not be too far away, but that depends on several contributed modules it uses and when they are released in stable versions.
  • Then it was Mattias Johansson and Tobias Haugen's turn to present the Lucid theme they have been working on. It will be the standard theme for the NodeStream distribution and have features such as responsive design among others. Unfortunately we where not treated to a demo, but Mattias and Tobias promised it will have a different approach to theming and also be mean lean and lightweight.
  • Last up was Bálint Kléri, giving us an introduction and overview of the Hierarchical Permissions initiative he started as a Google Summer of Code project and keep working on with the aim it will be part of Drupal 8. This is definitely interesting and if included will improve and make permission management both easier and much more flexible than the current state it is in. More info can be found on the GSoC wiki page about it.

These meetups are both educational and a lot of fun. It also shows how great the Drupal community is as the Drupal shops here take turns in hosting them inviting anyone interested to come.

I already look forward to the next one.
