Help Support the Media Initiative at DrupalCon
Wow, the last few weeks have been really amazing working with the Media Initiative. Not only have our bi-weekly IRC meetings and Office Hours been a tremendous success, the Media Support Squad also took off with a flying start with users now working on issues, creating a new FAQ, performing usability testing an other cool stuff.
I was also recently contacted by one of the organizers of the Drupal Dev Days in Barcelona, June 18-20, about running a Media sprint there. Thanks to Janez Urevc kind offer to help organizing it with me a sprint proposal has now been submitted. I'm also looking into the possibility of organizing a small Media sprint in relation to DrupalCamp Gothenburg at the end of April.
DrupalCon Denver
Before that, we have something even bigger coming up - DrupalCon Denver. There will be a lot of Media related activities there, including:
DrupalCon Denver will thus be a fantastic opportunity for many of us who work with the Media Initiative to meet in person, some for the first time, to discuss, plan and work on all things media over several days. It is really impossible to underestimate how much this will help us keep, and increase, momentum for the project. For me personally it will be my first DrupalCon and the experience it will give me will be invaluable for my work as lead coordinator of the Media Support Squad and especially for organizing the two sprints mentioned above.
Help Support the Media Initiative
Unfortunately not all of us have the financial means to afford the costs going do an event such as DrupalCon. Just a few weeks ago I was set to not be able to go, then several things changed that. First I learned I could have one of the tickets allotted to the Media Sprint. Then I received an email from James Sorensen with a fantastic offer of a place to stay. Finally, thanks to incredible generous donations from Christopher M Weber, David Reid and Brett Stoppel to the Media Inititative fund raising it turned from impossible to possible.
I just keep getting amazed about all the incredible people the Drupal community consists of!
With your help we can reach fund raising goal for Denver and really help keeping momentum up to create the media features we all know Drupal needs. The money raised will not only make it possible for me to go to Denver, but also help other key contributors to the Media Initiative in a similar situation.
